Productions

Omniprop has performed plays and excerpts for secondary school students of Classical Worlds and Theatre Studies in classrooms in Victoria since 2005.

Omniprop can work with teachers meet individual class needs. Past performances have included in-class exerpt presentations, full scale productions in school theatres and recitals of ancient poerty, to give students a chance to experience performance of non-dramatic texts. In addition, Omnioprop is now able to offer students a chance to work with texts directly in workshops working with masks, voice and the body.

While we are most familiar with the texts we have staged in the past (see our “Productions” page), we are happy to work with other texts to meet with sylabus requirements.

Why we do it

“Theatre” is derived from the ancient Greek word that means to see, which illustrates immediately the value of having students watch drama live. We hope to provide students (and teachers) with insights into the texts that can only be gained from seeing them acted out before their eyes. The educational value of such perforamnces is self-evident, and there are a range of established companies offering this service with other dramatic texts (such as Shakespeare) to Victorian Schools. Omniprop gives teachers of classical studies, Latin and Ancient Greek in Victoria access to a similar reasource, uniquely focussing on ancient drama.
